Ben Calsbeek

Prior to founding The Superchiefs, Ben & Ted played together in the seminal alt-country band The Bootheels (that's the boot-heels, not the booth-eels), where Ben played bass. Ben has been playing music since childhood, when he learned to play violin at a young age. He had gotten away from playing the violin to focus on being an alt-country superstar until his love of old jazz and western swing brought him back down to earth. Accepting his fate to be a violinist, Ben has fashioned a laid-back swinging style on the violin and a matching vocal temperment. >
Equipment

Ben plays a 1921 John Lau violin. This fiddle is one of 9 Laus known in existence and was given new life by collector extrodanaire Dale Wilber, of Bruce's Crossing, Upper Michigan. If you play the violin, a trip to see Mr. Wilber would be well worth your while.
